Roles and permissions overview

Roles are a way of granting permission to groups of users in your organisation to specific resources of a project. This enables you to separate the duties within your team with the amount of access that they need to perform their job.

For example, you might have a Events author role, which enables those users to, create, update, submit entries for approval for the events and venue content types. But an Events approver role may only be able to approve and decline entries for the events and venue content types without allowing them to update them.

Permission summary

Permissions are not granted to a user but to a role. This provides a clear security model and makes it easier to audit what a user can do.

Users are assigned to roles, individually or by being a member of a group.

Permissions are assigned to roles, granting access to resources and associated actions and languages.

Supported resources

The following resources are currently supported by roles:

  • Entries
  • Entry language variations

Note: Roles do not provide granular access to individual files, assets or entries.
