Configure MIME types

Some of the file types used by web controls in Contensis are not served by default in IIS and will need to be configured. You can configure the file types either in IIS or in your publishing server web config  file. Here is a list of the MIME types we use.

Warning:  Do not do both of these as adding the MIME type to your IIS config  and publishing server web config  file will cause a .NET Server Error.

Add MIME types via IIS 7

These steps apply to Windows server 2008 and above.

  1. Open The Server Manager
  2. Navigate to Roles
  3. Select Webserver (IIS)  and then Internet Information Services and your Server name
  4. Now on the homepage double click on MIME Types
  5. Click Add  in the right hand column
  6. Fill out the extension and MIME type and click OK

Add MIME types via the web.config of a publishing server

Alternatively you can add them to your web.config  file.

  1. Go to the management console
  2. Expand Project Setup
  3. Press Publishing Servers
  4. Select the Web Config link against the publishing server you want to apply the MIME types to.
  5. Add the appropriate MIME types using the following XML as a basis.
  6. You will need to press Save & Publish and wait for the SystemXML file to go through the publishing queue before the changes take effect.
