Update your web.config file

The web.config file that is found in the root of your published website is the main settings and configuration file for your site. There are occasions when you may want to add to this file, for example to add your own custom error pages or store settings for bespoke web controls.

Traditionally you would just make this change directly on the webserver. When using Contensis this is not possible as the web.config file gets redeployed every time you upgrade your publishing server and therefore your changes would be overwritten.

With this in mind you need to make changes to the web.config through the Contensis UI and then Contensis will merge these settings into the file when it publishes the web.config. Updating the web.config through Contensis is simple, open Contensis and navigate to:

Management Console >  Project Overview >  Publishing Servers

Click on the Web Config link and an editor will be launched. By default the web.config will contain an empty <configuration> node. To add new entries just paste them into the editor. The entries that you add into the web.config file MUST to be properly encased within the correct parent element structure.

To save your changes click either the Save or Save and Publish button. If you choose to save and publish the web.config file will be added to the publishing queue immediately. The file will be shown on the publishing queue as SystemXML.
