Set up data filters on list controls

Listing controls within Contensis allow you to list pages and other pieces of content. You can also use data filters to filter down the list of content. Data filters are ways you can filter down data within a listing control to only include a subset of your content.

Limit the listing to a folder

This is a step you can take to limit the listings to only pages contained within a folder. This is useful if all the pages are contained in one folder, for example all pages within a blog folder.

  1. Edit the generic listing control you want to limit to only list pages within a folder.
  2. Add a data filter for your custom metadata by pressing on the Add Filter button. A window will popup.
  3. Under the column section of the popup window select Property_F_ID . Under type select EqualTo and under value type in the ID of your folder. You can find your folder ID from within the Information screen in the context menu when pressing on your folder.
  4. Save the filters, and save the listing control.
  5. Save and preview the changes in the page. Your listing control should now display the correct pages.

Only list pages created using a specific template

Your blog pages may be spread across your site but they all use a common page template.

  1. Edit the generic listing control you want to limit to only list pages within a folder.
  2. Add a data filter for your custom metadata by pressing on the Add Filter button. A window will popup.
  3. Under the column section of the popup window select SC_T_ID . Under type select EqualTo and under value type in the negative content ID of your template. i.e. If your template had a content ID of 1234 then you would enter -1234. This is because the column is dual purpose, in the case of content it is the Content Type ID and in the case of webpages it is the page template Content ID negated You can find your page template content ID from within the Information screen in the context menu when pressing on your template.
  4. Save the filters, and save the listing control.
  5. Save and preview the changes in the page. Your listing control should now display the correct pages.

Using a custom filter

There may be circumstances where you need to use a custom filter, one such case would be if you wanted to use an OR statement as data filters are AND searches by default.

  1. Edit the generic listing control you want to limit to only list pages within a folder.
  2. Add a data filter for your custom metadata by pressing on the Add Filter button. A window will popup.
  3. Under the column section of the popup window leave it on "Please Select".Under type select Custom and under value type in your custom SQL. An example would be all PDF documents in either FolderA or FolderB. For this you would enter ((Property_CT_ID = 21) AND (Property_Path LIKE '/FolderA%' OR Property_Path LIKE '/FolderB%'))
  4. Save the filters, and save the listing control.
  5. Save and preview the changes in the page. Your listing control should now display the correct pages.

You can repeat this process as many times as needed to complete your filtering and you can do this for every possible data filter. Take a look at our properties reference for an overview of all the properties.
