Release management

Release management is similar to what we previously called publishing schedules. Release management is a way you can group pieces of content that will all be published at the same time. System Administrators and Release Administrators are able to work with release management. This is so you can have users who can edit and create releases without giving them full permissions to administer everything in the CMS.

A clothing shop has received the promotional material for a winter collection. A release manager would setup a release schedule called Winter Collection to publish the content on 31 October.

The fashion editor puts together a series of product pages and assigns the Winter Collection release to each of the pages. On 31 October the content is published to the website automatically.

Create a new release

  1. Navigate to your Management Console by clicking on the Cog Icon in the Project Explorer.
  2. Expand Project Setup and select Release Management.
  3. Click the green button Create Release. The add new release window will appear.
  4. Enter a description of the release, for example Winter clothing line and select a date and time for the content to be published.
  5. Press Save. The window will close and the release will be created.

High priority releases

You can mark a release as high priority, this will push the content that has been assigned to the schedule to the top of the publishing queue on the release date.

Add content to your release

  1. Edit the piece of content you want to add to the release.
  2. Click through to the Properties tab.
  3. You can find a list of the releases underneath the Release Management section.
  4. Choose a release from the dropdown list and Save the page.

The immediate release is the default, releasing the content to the publishing queue as soon as the content is approved. All other release schedules will have a date and time attached.

Delay publication of a piece of content

You can also delay the publishing of a piece of content by setting a new schedule. You may have written a blog post that you want to be published while you are asleep to reach another audience in a different time zone.

  1. Edit the piece of content you want to add to the release.
  2. Click through to the Properties  tab.
  3. Click the set a new schedule
  4. You can now input a date and time for the content to be released from the date and time picker.
  5. Save the page.
  6. Once approved the content will be published at the specified date and time.
